I have been volunteering for the homeless at our church since 2021. As a result, I have come to know many deacons at the church I attend. They work in really diverse places. I volunteer with many people, including large corporations everyone knows, self-employed individuals, regular employees, and housewives.
We go on a picnic every half-year. It is a kind of rest and reward to soothe the tired body and mind while volunteering. Every time, the deacons open their wallets and serve with donations. I am very grateful.
This time, we went to eat a really expensive wild boar. About 30 people went, and it was so precious. Taking someone to an expensive place isn't what's precious; it's precious to use my finances for others.
I think it's not easy to open your wallet for others when you are busy just making a living. Of course, you can do it if you have the means. But even if you have the means, I also feel that closing your wallet is the reality of today.
I don't think it matters whether I earn a lot of money or little. I respect the way they go forward for someone, simply with a heart of love, sacrifice, dedication, and service. At the same time, I reflect on myself, who closes and opens my wallet, thinking only of myself and my family, or even more so of myself than my family. I wish my generous heart would widen so that I could serve others with my finances.
