Although not officially recognized by the National Institute of the Korean Language, there's a theory that the etymology of ‘areumdapda’ (beautiful) is ‘nadapda’ (true to oneself). It is said that ‘areum’ means ‘I, individual,’ and ‘areumdapda’ originates from the meaning of ‘true to oneself.’
People are most radiant, artistic, and noble when they are true to themselves. Imitating others is like losing and denying one's own ‘beauty.’
People want to get to know me. And they find it quite interesting to learn about me. Why are we so interested in blood types, MBTI, etc., and creating memes about them? Everyone wants to know themselves, why they are the way they are, and how to overcome their weaknesses.
Other people may seem cool and pretty. And wanting to imitate them is, in a way, natural. But that is their beauty = their true selves. That is not me.
We are beautiful when we are true to ourselves. You are beautiful as you are. I hope we all have a beautiful day today.
